About Sports Massage & How It Can Help You:
"Sports Massage encompasses a range of interventions, services and advice aimed at restoring, maintaining and improving people's function and movement and thereby maximising the quality of their lives.
(Chartered Society of Physiotherapy)
Sports Massage can be useful for anyone affected by injury, illness or disability.
Sports Massage is not necessarily something that is done to you, rather it's a philosophy of
creating the right conditions to allow the body to function well and to heal itself when
injured. As well as maximising physical well-being, Physiotherapy also has a role in
promoting mental well-being, acceptance, confidence and positive coping strategies.
Sports Massage includes "hands on" techniques such as joint and soft tissue mobilisation, as
well as therapeutic exercises, advice & education and sometimes also electro-therapy
techniques such as Ultrasound.
Sports Massage helps you recover from an injury, it also helps people with a long term
condition and with the effects of ageing. It can be useful for improving or maintaining
mobility and has a role in reducing the risk of and fear of falling. Physiotherapy can also
be used proactively to prepare you for surgery, for example joint replacement surgery,
whereby "pre-op" Physiotherapy will not only make you better prepared, it may also speed up
your recovery.
